Denver Archbishop tells Catholics how to vote

I'm livid.

It's no secret that I'm no friend of of the Catholic Church; as I've seen their ways too often for my liking, but this time the Denver Archdiocese has gone too far.

Sunday morning during mass, priests read a statement from the Denver Catholic Archdiocese urging parishioners to vote in favor of Amendment 43, which would define marriage in Colorado as a union between one man and one woman.

The Archdiocese also urged Catholics to vote 'no' on referendum I, an initiative for domestic partnerships saying it "begins the dangerous process of establishing domestic partnerships as an equal or parallel to the institution of marriage."

The smoking gun letter can be read here in PDF format.

I think it's worth noting that during the 2004 election Archbishop Charles Chaput, who signed the above letter, directed Catholics to vote for Bush, which as of yesterday he now denies.

I hope the IRS revokes the Denver Catholic Archdiocese 501(c)(3) status over this.
